Welcome to Paradise CSA, my long-time dream and labour of love.
I grew up on a beef farm in the Annapolis Valley and was happiest being on the farm. The problem was, everyone around me always said, "Don't be a farmer. There's no money in farming." So, I moved away to pursue my next great love, which is teaching.
After moving back to the valley, though, I quickly realized that the longing to be outside and to make things grow had never really left and, in fact, still made me happiest. It's true, there's not a whole lot of money in farming, especially small-scale. But, I believe in the principles behind it - buying local, knowing where your food comes from, and renewing a tradition that was nearly lost to big box stores. So, I began to think of ways I could make this a viable venture.
That was around the time I first heard of Community Supported Agriculture.
I want to be very clear that this is a work in progress, and this blog will document my adventures. The goal is to have a fully-functional CSA serving a central valley base within the next couple of years. With your support and, most importantly, interest, we can continue to grow and become a viable option in the quest for local, sustainably grown, natural food.
Yours locally,
Ashley
